Right to health is vital to all aspects of human life and well-being, and is crucial to the realization of many fundamental human rights and freedom. Women and health issues encompasses women’s rights to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical, mental and emotional health, throughout their life-cycle. Women’s reproductive and sexual health situation is particularly poor with high mortality rates, particularly during childhood and their reproductive years. The situation when coupled with the lack of skilled health personnel, infrastructure, financial resources and health systems that are responsive to the needs of excluded communities, presents a great challenge for communities and development workers. While the government through introduction of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) is reinforcing its involvement in community health care service delivery a large gap still remains.
A well structured containing objectives and work plan for Health intervention in the community, Meebha focus on management of communicable and non-communicable disease like Japanese encephalitis, malaria, chikenguniya, mother and child care, diabetic education and awareness, nutrition, anemia, epidemiological study, assessment of health index, validating efficacy of traditional health practices and HIV After several studies and their analysis, it came to the notice of Meebha that the strategy like ‘our health is in our hands’ needs to be design for sustainable health. Meebha therefore made a plan to motivate the society so as to they follow secured life style, naturopathy and yoga and also they consume organic food and minimum but safe medicines.
Meebha takes action to improve access of partner communities to affordable health care services. Our work in the area of reproductive health includes creating a demand for health services at the local level and to enable women to access her health entitlements. The women resource centre helps women to attain maternity benefit schemes such as the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY). Special educational interventions are done with adolescent girls groups so that they are aware on issues of adolescent health. Meebha organizes session with children on issues of health and hygiene. Besides, to address immediate health needs of women and children we organize health and referral camps with the support of local Doctors and Health workers.
